Hey, this is Chad with Munday Scientific. Today, I’m going to show you how to install an analyzer and polarizer on your Olympus BX45 microscope.
Many BX45 microscopes come with a dust cap installed, and we’ll walk through how to remove it and properly install both components.
Removing the Dust Cap
On most BX45 microscopes:
- There is a dust cap located above the nosepiece
- This cap can be popped out easily
Once removed, you’ll have access to the analyzer slot.
Installing the Analyzer
The analyzer is a round disc that fits into the analyzer holder.
Key Features
- Magnets on the back for alignment
- A guide pin, which ensures it only installs one way
Installation Steps
- Align the analyzer with the slot
- Insert it so the pin falls into place
- Press it in until it sits flush
- Slide it into the light path
Once installed, the analyzer should feel secure and properly aligned.
Installing the Polarizer
The polarizer is installed underneath the stage.
Location
- On the right-hand side under the stage
- There is a small slot designed specifically for the polarizer
Installation Steps
- Insert the polarizer into the slot
- Rotate it to cross the poles with the analyzer
Usage Tips
Many users choose to leave the polarizer installed and simply:
- Slide it out of the light path when not in use
Alternatively, you can:
- Remove it completely
- Store it in a box or protective bag
- Replace the dust cap when not using polarization
