Hello everyone, this is Walker Kelly with Munday Scientific Instrument Service. Today, we’re going to show you how to replace the light bulb on an Olympus BX41 microscope.
For this procedure, you will need:
- An Olympus BX41 microscope
- A replacement 6V 30W bulb
Step 1: Remove the Lamp House Lens
We’ll begin by removing the lamp house lens assembly from the microscope.
Removal Steps:
- Locate the lamp house on top of the microscope
- Gently squeeze both sides of the lamp house lens assembly
- Pull straight outward
You may feel a small amount of resistance, but the assembly should slide out smoothly.
Step 2: Remove the Old Bulb
With the lamp house removed:
- Locate the old bulb inside the housing
- Gently wiggle the bulb to loosen it
- Pull it straight out of the socket
The bulb may feel slightly stiff, which is normal.
Important:
Dispose of the old bulb properly according to local disposal guidelines.
Step 3: Prepare the New Bulb
Open the replacement bulb package carefully.
You’ll notice the bulb comes inside a protective sleeve.
Why the Sleeve Matters
The sleeve helps prevent direct contact with the bulb glass.
⚠️ Important:
Do not touch the bulb with your fingers.
The oils and grease from your skin can:
- Shorten bulb lifespan
- Cause uneven heating
- Damage the bulb over time
Step 4: Install the New Bulb
- Open the protective sleeve halfway
- Expose only the two metal prongs at the bottom
- Align the prongs with the socket
- Push the bulb firmly into place
- Remove the protective sleeve
The bulb is now installed.
Step 5: Reinstall the Lamp House
To reinstall the lamp house:
- Locate the two alignment pins on the side of the lamp house
- Match them with the corresponding sockets on the microscope
- Slide the lamp house back into position
- Push firmly until fully seated
