Plug in an Olympus BX43 or BX46

Today, we’re going to show you how to properly connect the power supply on an Olympus BX43 or BX46 microscope.
We recently received a call about this, and the setup can be a little confusing because both the microscope and certain accessories use similar-looking power connections.
Connecting the Nosepiece
First, turn the microscope around so you can access the connections on the back.
The cable from the nosepiece feeds through the opening in the rear of the microscope. When connecting it, you’ll notice an arrow on the connector and a corresponding arrow on the microscope connection.
Line up these two arrows and plug the nosepiece into the microscope.
Connecting the Microscope Power Supply
The microscope itself uses a 5V power supply. This is very important because some Olympus power supplies use the same style of connector even though they provide different voltages.
Before connecting anything, make sure the microscope is turned off.
Plug the 5V power supply into the appropriate power connection on the microscope. Then connect a standard line cord to the power supply and plug it into a wall outlet.
Once everything is properly connected, you can turn the microscope on.
Pay Close Attention to the Power Supply Voltage
It’s extremely important to use the correct power supply.
For example, we have a 15V power supply that uses the same type of connector as the microscope’s 5V power supply. However, this 15V power supply is intended for a discussion bridge, not the microscope itself.
The 15V adapter would plug into the discussion bridge’s power connection.
Do not plug the 15V power supply into the microscope. If you connect the wrong power supply and turn the system on, you can damage the electronics.
Check the Labels Before Connecting Power
When we ship these systems, we label the power supplies to make it easy to identify the correct one.
The discussion bridge or pointer power supply will have a large white label identifying its purpose. Likewise, the microscope’s power adapter will be clearly labeled as the Olympus BX power adapter for the microscope.
Always check these labels and verify that you’re using the correct power supply before turning on the system.
