Hello everyone, this is Walker Kelly with Munday Scientific Customer Service. Today, we’re going to show you how to disassemble the front-to-back bridge system on an Olympus BX41 microscope.
We’ll walk through the process step by step, including:
- Removing the eyepieces
- Removing the microscope heads
- Removing the bridge assembly
Step 1: Remove the Eyepieces
The first step is to remove the eyepieces.
Each microscope head typically contains two eyepieces, although for demonstration purposes only one set may be installed.
Removal Steps:
- Grip the eyepieces gently
- Pull straight upward
- Set them aside in a safe location
Step 2: Remove the Microscope Heads
Next, we’ll remove the viewing heads.
Locate the 3 mm Allen Wrench
On the upper-right side of the microscope, you’ll find the built-in 3 mm Allen wrench.
- Remove the wrench from its holder
- Locate the screw access hole beside the microscope head
Loosen the Head Retaining Screw
- Insert the Allen wrench into the screw hole
- Loosen the retaining screw a few turns
⚠️ Important:
You do not need to remove the screw completely.
Once the screw is loose:
- The head will slide free
- You can lift it off and set it aside safely
Remove the Second Head
The opposite side of the bridge has the same screw arrangement.
Repeat the process:
- Insert the wrench
- Loosen the screw a few turns
- Remove the second head carefully
Keep the Allen wrench nearby, as you’ll need it for the next step.
Step 3: Remove the Front-to-Back Bridge Assembly
Now we’ll remove the bridge assembly itself.
Bridge Removal Steps
- Rotate the microscope so it faces forward
- Locate the retaining screw beneath the original head mounting location
- Insert the 3 mm Allen wrench
- Loosen the screw a few turns
Once loosened:
- The bridge assembly will come free
- Carefully lift it off and set it aside
Final Step
After removing the bridge assembly:
- Return the 3 mm Allen wrench to its holder
- Store all removed components safely
This helps prevent losing parts during packing or shipping.
