Change the Bulb in a Olympus BHS Microscope
Read the Edited Video Transcript for ‘Change the Bulb in a Olympus BHS Microscope’
Good day. This is Daniel Duncan with Munday Scientific. Today, we’re going to demonstrate another simple light bulb replacement procedure.
The microscope we’re working with is an Olympus BHS, which uses a 12V, 100W halogen bulb.
Removing the Lamp Housing
Replacing the bulb on the Olympus BHS is very straightforward.
The microscope has a bulb lamp housing secured by a small thumbscrew. Loosen the thumbscrew and remove the lamp housing cover to gain access to the bulb.
Removing the Old Bulb
When handling the bulb, always use a tissue or Kimwipe to avoid getting fingerprints or oils from your hands on the glass.
Inside the lamp housing, you’ll find two small levers. Press both levers down simultaneously to release the bulb. Once they’re depressed, the bulb can be easily removed.
Installing the Replacement Bulb
For this microscope, we’re installing a 64625 12V, 100W halogen lamp.
When opening the replacement bulb, carefully pull back the packaging so the bulb’s prongs are exposed without touching the glass globe.
Insert the prongs into the socket and secure the bulb in place using the two retaining levers.
Avoid touching the glass portion of the bulb with your bare fingers. If you accidentally get fingerprints on the glass, clean the bulb thoroughly with an appropriate lens-cleaning material before operating the microscope.
Reassembly
Once the new bulb is securely installed, replace the lamp housing cover and tighten the thumbscrew.
That’s all there is to it. The microscope is now ready to be powered back up and used with your specimens.
