Hey, this is Chad with Munday Scientific. Today, we’re going to show you how to install the analyzer and polarizer on your Olympus BX46 microscope from Olympus Evident.

This setup is very similar to the BX45, so these instructions will apply to both models.

Locating the Analyzer Slot

On the BX46, there is a dust cap located above the nosepiece.

To install the analyzer:

  1. Remove the dust cap
  2. This will expose the analyzer slot

Installing the Analyzer

The analyzer fits into a dedicated holder.

Installation Features

  • The analyzer has three magnets on the back
  • These align with corresponding points on the microscope
  • There is also a guide pin that fits into a hole for proper alignment

Installation Steps

  1. Align the analyzer with the slot
  2. Ensure the pin drops into place
  3. You will feel it click into position
  4. Slide it fully into the light path

Once installed, the analyzer should sit flush and secure.

Installing the Polarizer

The polarizer can be installed in two different locations.

Option 1: Under the Stage (Less Common)

  • Positioned under the stage and beneath the diaphragm
  • Can be moved to align the optical axis (crossing the poles)

Option 2: Side Mount (Most Common)

  • Located on the right side underneath the stage
  • This is the preferred and most commonly used position

Tips and Common Issues

  • The analyzer installation is straightforward
  • The polarizer placement is where most users get confused

If you’re unsure:

Reinstalling the Dust Cap

If you are not using the analyzer:

  1. Remove it from the slot
  2. Replace the dust cap to protect the opening
