Today, we’re going to talk about the heads-up display and how to add it to your microscope. For this demonstration, we’ve installed it on the Accu-Scope 3000.
This is a great addition—you’ll see this kind of setup in many veterinary clinics. It’s especially helpful for those who have difficulty looking through the microscope eyepiece. It also works well for quick checks.
What you’re seeing on the screen is exactly what you’d see through the eyepiece. The field of view is slightly smaller, but overall, it captures everything. It’s very responsive—when you move the objectives, the display keeps up right away. It’s a little out of focus here, so let’s bring it into focus.
One of the nice features on this scope—and many others—is that you can adjust the focus directly on the camera. So whatever you’re seeing through the eyepiece, you can bring in and out of focus on the display. I’m adjusting it right here to bring it into perfect focus.
There are also a few buttons on the back of the unit. When you hook it up, you’ll find the power button, which you’ll need to press when turning the scope on. When the unit has power but is off, the light will be red. Once powered on, the blue light will turn on after a second or two.
The unit includes an SD card if you want to capture images, and it also comes with a mouse. You can use the simplified software interface to access and adjust settings directly from the display. You can capture an image with the press of a button—it saves directly to the SD card.
On the right side of the screen, you can zoom in or out on images, flip them vertically or horizontally, and more. While it’s not a full software suite, it’s a very user-friendly setup.
Most people add this heads-up display for the convenience of viewing, especially for users who struggle with eyepieces. The display can be added to any microscope with a trinocular head, including models from Olympus, Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, Unatron, Accu-Scope, and many others. It’s a fantastic feature and relatively inexpensive.
