Hi, this is Walker with Munday Scientific. Today, we’re going to show you how to replace the bulb in a Leica illuminator.
Changing the bulb is a simple procedure that only takes a few minutes. Just be sure the illuminator has been turned off long enough for the bulb to cool before you begin.
Opening the Illuminator
At the top of the illuminator, locate the sliding lock marked with a small black dot.
To remove the cover:
- Pull up on the sliding lock.
- While holding the lock, press back on the latch.
- Lift the cover straight up and remove it.
With the cover removed, you’ll have access to the bulb assembly.
Removing the Old Bulb
Inside the illuminator, you’ll see the bulb connected to a small socket with attached wiring.
Before handling the bulb, make sure it has cooled completely if the illuminator was recently in use.
To remove the bulb:
- Pull the bulb out of the retaining clip.
- Unplug it from the socket.
The old bulb can now be discarded.
Installing the New Bulb
Take the replacement bulb and plug it into the socket.
The bulb can be installed in either orientation, so there is no correct direction to worry about.
Once it is fully connected, press it firmly into place and slide it back into the retaining clip.
Make sure the bulb is seated securely before continuing.
Reinstalling the Cover
Replace the illuminator cover by positioning it over the housing.
Pull back the locking mechanism as you lower the cover into place.
Once the cover is fully seated, release the latch and allow it to snap securely into position.
Your Leica illuminator is now ready to use.
