Hello everyone, this is Walker Keller with Munday Scientific Instrument Service. Today, we’re going to show you a quick tutorial on how to remove the lamp house from an Olympus BX51 microscope.
This is a simple process, but there are a few important precautions to keep in mind to avoid damaging the microscope.
Step 1: Position the Microscope Safely
To begin:
- Carefully rotate the microscope
- Tilt it backward gently
⚠️ Important:
Be careful not to damage the lamp house flange while repositioning the microscope.
Step 2: Locate the Built-In Allen Wrench
On the upper-right side of the microscope, you’ll find the built-in Allen wrench.
Steps:
- Remove the Allen wrench from its holder
- Locate the cutout on the rear of the microscope housing
This cutout provides access to the lamp house retaining screw.
Step 3: Loosen the Lamp House Retaining Screw
On most later-model BX51 microscopes:
- There is usually a sticker marking the lamp house adjustment/removal location
Removal Steps:
- Insert the Allen wrench into the access opening
- Loosen the retaining screw a few turns
The screw is designed to stop automatically, so you do not need to remove it completely.
Step 4: Remove the Lamp House
Once the screw is loosened:
- Pull the lamp house straight outward
- Carefully remove it from the microscope
Step 5: Disconnect the Lamp House Cable
On the back of the lamp house, you’ll find the power connector with a spring-loaded collar.
Disconnecting the Cable:
- Rotate the collar until it stops
- Pull the connector straight out
This disconnects the lamp house from the microscope safely.
Final Thoughts
Removing the lamp house on an Olympus BX51 microscope is a quick and straightforward process when done carefully.
Key points to remember:
- Tilt the microscope carefully
- Use the built-in Allen wrench
- Do not fully remove the retaining screw
