Hi, this is Chad with Munday Scientific.
Today, we’re going to talk about a few things to check on the front-to-back bridge of your Olympus microscope—especially if your pointer isn’t working.
We get a lot of calls about this issue, and the most common cause is surprisingly simple:
Check the power supply. Trace the power cord all the way back to the wall and make sure it’s plugged in. In many labs, especially when using discussion bridges like this one, someone might unplug the microscope’s power brick to charge their phone or use the outlet for another device.
If your pointer light isn’t illuminated, that’s the first thing to verify.
Next, let’s talk about the rheostat—this controls the pointer light. Make sure the rheostat is turned on, as it can sometimes be overlooked.
One of the great features of these discussion bridges is the dual joysticks. The joystick on the driver’s side controls the pointer for that viewer, and the one on the passenger side allows the second viewer to point to something while looking through their side. It’s a useful tool for teaching or collaborative diagnostics.
These tips apply to the Olympus BX model microscopes, but the concept is very similar across brands like Nikon, Leica, and Zeiss. While the configurations and connector placements may differ slightly, the core functionality remains the same.
If you have any questions about this microscope—or any other models, especially for clinical applications—feel free to contact us at 919-775-5596 or email us at (that’s “Munday” with a “U”).
If you’re looking to purchase a BX stage, you can find them at our e-commerce shop, MicroscopeMarketplace.com.
