Hey, this is Scott with Munday Scientific. Today, we’re going to show you one small but important detail that ensures your microscope remains properly parfocal.
If this adjustment isn’t set correctly, the image seen through the camera may not match the focus you see through the eyepieces.
Set the Parfocal Adjustment to Zero
To maintain proper parfocality, first verify that the parfocal adjustment scale is set to zero.
This provides the correct starting point for the optical system.
Check the Alignment Pin
Next, inspect the alignment pin on the trinocular assembly.
The pin must be fully engaged in the matching slot on the trinocular head.
If the pin is not aligned correctly, the assembly will sit slightly above its proper position.
You’ll notice that once the pin is aligned with the slot, the assembly will drop fully into place.
Why This Is Important
If the alignment pin is not seated in the slot, the trinocular head will not be installed correctly.
This changes the optical path and can compromise the microscope’s parfocality, meaning the image viewed through the camera may no longer remain in focus when the eyepieces are focused.
Taking a moment to verify that the scale is set to zero and the alignment pin is fully engaged helps ensure accurate, consistent focus between the eyepieces and the camera.
