Hi, this is Chad with Munday Scientific, and today we’re talking about the pointer system on a Nikon microscope. Michael is going to come in, and we’ll walk through how this system works. This applies to a front-to-back bridge or, in this case, a side-by-side bridge.
Common Problems With the Original Pointer System
This component tends to fail frequently. There’s a small bulb inside that often burns out and needs to be replaced. The caps are commonly lost, and this brass or copper piece is often missing or not making proper contact. In many cases, the original parts have simply been misplaced or damaged over time.
Our LED Replacement Solution

Installation Instructions
When installing the LED replacement, you’ll notice small keyways.
Mike, can you zoom in? These keyways have been notched to match our LED module.
On this model:
- Insert the part.
- Push it in.
- Rotate it into place.
Once installed, the pointer is controlled using this click button here to turn it on.
Mounting the LED Module
We provide a piece of double-sided tape so you can attach the module to the side of the scope. It mounts cleanly, just like this. The switch allows you to turn the LED on and off, and the system is ready to use immediately.
Benefits of the LED Replacement
Our goal was to replace the part that is often lost, broken, or failing to make good contact. With this LED replacement, you should no longer experience issues with your pointer system. It works on both side-by-side and front-to-back bridge configurations.
This is, I believe, a Nikon THP—though I can’t recall the exact part number. We’ll include that information in the description as well.
