Fix Cracked Olympus WH10X Eyepiece
Read the Edited Video Transcript for ‘Fix Cracked Olympus WH10X Eyepiece’
Hey, this is Chad with Munday Scientific. Today, we’re going to talk about one of the most common problems with Olympus BX eyepieces—specifically, the WH10X eyepiece with the 22mm field of view.
This plastic retaining ring at the top is prone to cracking over time. As you can see here, a crack has already started, and it will only get worse. Often, you’ll find a large chunk completely missing.
We’re going to remove that cracked plastic ring and throw it away. Then we’ll replace it with this metal cap that we manufacture. It threads on very easily and acts as a retention ring to hold the top glass piece in place.
Now, this eyepiece definitely needs to be cleaned, but once the new cap is installed, you’re good to go. This metal cap won’t break like the plastic one, so you won’t have issues in the future. You can still use your rubber eye guard over it, or if you prefer not to use one, it’s still comfortable to use.
Just pop the eyepiece back in, and you’re ready to get back to work.
