Hey, this is Chad with Munday Microscope. Today, I’m going to show you how to replace the light bulb on an Olympus CX41 microscope.

Replacing the bulb is a quick and easy maintenance task. Just follow these simple steps.

Before You Begin

Start by unplugging the power cord from the back of the microscope.

In most laboratory settings, the microscope will already be plugged in, so always disconnect the power before servicing the lamp.

If your microscope has a filter installed on top of the field diaphragm, remove it and set it aside in a safe place before continuing.

Accessing the Bulb

Carefully lay the microscope on its back.

Open the small access door located on the underside of the microscope. This will expose the lamp compartment and bulb.

If the bulb has just burned out during use, allow it to cool for approximately five minutes before attempting to remove it, as it may be extremely hot.

Removing the Old Bulb

Using a Kimwipe or another clean, lint-free tissue, carefully remove the old bulb from the socket.

Dispose of the old bulb according to your facility’s procedures.

Installing the New Bulb

The Olympus CX41 uses an:

  • Osram 6 Volt, 30 Watt bulb
  • Part Number: 64265

We’ll include a link to this replacement bulb in the video description if you need to purchase one.

Open the bulb package using the easy-open pull tab.

Avoid touching the glass of the new bulb with your bare fingers, as skin oils can reduce the bulb’s lifespan.

Using the protective packaging or a Kimwipe, insert the new bulb firmly into the socket.

Reassembling the Microscope

Close the access door until it snaps securely into place.

Reinstall the filter, if one was removed, and reconnect the power cord.

Your microscope is now ready to use.

Final Thoughts

Replacing the bulb on an Olympus CX41 is a simple procedure that only takes a few minutes. By handling the bulb properly and avoiding contact with the glass, you’ll help ensure maximum bulb life and reliable performance.
